Sunday Thoughts from Pastor Katherine: Did you ever think that the crowds around Jesus seemed to be divided into two groups? There were the people who had come to be healed and taught – the people Jesus was “nice” to. And there were Jesus’ disciples – the people Jesus gave work to. And if you’re a church member, you may feel that being in the second group isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Maybe – just maybe – that’s because we can be so busy and important taking care of other people that we forget that Jesus loves us, too. Try asking Him.

A Thursday Thought from Pastor Katherine: Outside my window is a pile of topsoil, and a thunderstorm raging around it. Not very attractive. But the rain is softening the ground and once the topsoil is spread into some ruts, new grass seed can grow to welcome children onto our lawn again. What messes in your life may be God’s work preparing for something new?
A Thursday Thought from Pastor Katherine (I was away from my computer yesterday though, yes it's Friday): “Ho, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters….” (Isaiah 55:1a). Isaiah is speaking about spiritual water given by God, and if our churches don’t have this on offer, then we’re in the wrong business. But what about actual abundant, clean, safe drinking water? Lots of people in the world don’t have access to it. Surely that’s God’s concern also.

This Sunday Only! A joint worship service with our local cluster of Presbyterian churches. United Presbyterian of Hornell will welcome our brothers and sisters at 10:30 AM. And a Thursday/Friday Thought from Pastor Katherine: “My beloved had a vineyard on a very fertile hill…He expected it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes” (Isaiah 5:1b,2b). Here in the Finger Lakes we know something about growing grapes. We like to eat them. And we sometimes complain of sour grapes. In the Bible the grapes in God’s vineyard are US. What kind of a grape are you?

A Thursday Thought from Pastor Katherine: Here is a picture of a Bufflehead. Truly. It’s a funny name, but a beautiful duck. How often do we get no further than a person’s or a thing’s name before we write them off? God calls us to look behind names, behind immediate impressions, to see what is truly there. And if it comes from God, we’ll find it’s beautiful.
Our first Bazaar work-bee is tomorrow beginning around 10:00 AM in the church dining room. Bring your project or maybe find one there.... photo is a Christmas garland made from wooden spools 🧵 after thread is used up. Pretty! Do you have some empty wood spools? Kathy B. could use more.

A Thursday Thought from Pastor Katherine: Sometimes our “big” problems look a lot smaller when we compare them with others. That can be helpful. But don’t make the mistake of thinking they’re too small for God to care about. God designed every atom in the universe – God’s “into” small as well as big. And God cares for you.
